Easy on the Ice

An old played out tune
kept a whisper in her ear
Like a lonely sound
of winter wind a blowing
With the remnants of her wardrobe
when she was dancing queen
She hitched a ride
to wherever she was going
The travelling was easy
and the leaving left behind
A trace of laughter when
she kept her tears from showing
Many days just passing time
hoping everything would change
But it never did
and she had no way of knowing

So pour me a happy tune go easy on the ice
A song to let my thoughts just drift away
Let the beat of the drum send ripples down my spine
As I glide on a golden dream where tears just drift away

A railroad bell was ringing
as though a life ahead was waiting
The sunlight sent
a message to her eyes
The call of fresh brewed coffee
put speed back in her stride
Like when living was a fairground ride
and everyday a prize
The diner door slid easy
with no resistance to her need
the sound of morning music
offered time
The waitress gave a knowing glance
and placed an empty cup
then filled it with the taste of hope
and sentimental rhyme

So pour me a happy tune go easy on the ice
A song to let my thoughts just drift away
Let the beat of the drum send ripples down my spine
as I glide on a golden dream where tears just drift away
