Water Darling?

On water there’s a point to make
We all need to sup a cup
Though no more than is adequate
From food we eat and brews we sup

But fashion is as fashion does
Demands the current latest craze
Water carried in a holy grail
Sold at prices that amaze

Bottles dressed in finest labels
To look awash with so much posh
As one splashes out in company
Fine dining tables perfect nosh

Filtered clean in foaming clouds
Water nature’s born again
To percolate and circulate
Making rivers out of rain

Flowing down these filtered streams
Replenish man made reservoirs
Further cleaned they fill our taps
And the bottles in our bars

Water is what water is
When pure and good enough to drink
It differs not when from a bottle tot
At prices way beyond the brink

183.Zzzzz

Oh to dream that dream again
The one the night corrupted
To slip away in stealthy sleep
And not be interrupted

I’ll dream my dream on purpose
Letting outcomes have their way
Watching how the shadows dance
Keep an eye on those that stray

For dreams like forks along the road
Take you deeper as they can
To the sudden start of ‘just woke up’
Confusing now with overran

All Change (long live the queen)

Heads above the parapet
There’s a changing of the guard
Dark corners cleared of murmurs
A taste of fresh air in the yard
Everybody’s making brand new vows
Guarantees of strong support
Slapping backs and soothing voices
Where new cooperatives consort
Undercurrents tell a different tale
Sad eyes seek the fruitless lamb
The poison chalice glitters gold
No one talks about the sham
Time to clear the decks of dregs
Sluice the drains of all disdains
Move the markers turn a page
Take greater pains to shake those chains
Mopping up the puddled blood
Backs are turned and glasses chinked
Atmospheres returned to ‘A-OK’
RIP the souls who blinked

How to Write a Ropey Rhyme

When the words come tumbling
Out of my sentence sort machine
Making points from sense disjoints
My bouncing ideas trampoline

I always find the teasing pleasing
Am surprised at what occurs
From the foggy muddle treadmill
Escaping from those wordless blurs

I need not start at the beginning
I often keep that to the end
Let each story tell itself
And let the ending recommend

I Vote We Change Our Minds

There’s never been a better time
To think of better things
When all around is showing cracks
With no sign of upturn swings

Change has always felt uncertain
Whether natural or contrived
Taking cover in a shrouded place
Where the fortunate survived

Though it’s always worth reflecting
On what drove us to the edge
A power grab among the powerful
Who made us teeter on the ledge

The options plainly far off dreams
Though first of all there must be pain
For the betterment of who knows what
On the grace and favour train

Easy promises and laidback cool
Assured that soon will come the day
When there’ll be no need for compromise
Nor any opposition’s say

Present circumstances fading fast
Caused by devious shady cash
From feathered nests of strategists
In buried democratic mash

For Good Measure

On the trail of accurate absolutes
Complete precision must agree
No time left to second guess
The measured metre perfectly

No cagey sham a perfect kilogram
The for amperes proper charge
Thermodynamically for kelvin’s T
Amounts of substance moles at large

Resplendent bright intensity
Outside or inside in the cellar
To measure best you’ll need cd
The light of which we call candela

Therefore second, metre, kilogram
Ampere, kelvin, mole
No matter where you need to see
The candela lights the whole

Wine About The Water

Hawksmoor wine mistake: How is any bottle worth £4,500?

It seems a little odd to me
How too much money makes you daft
With a wish to lash out loads of it
On a common or garden draft

I will admit to drinking faucet fair
Priced at fractions of a penny
Side step bottled prices super high
No not me I don’t buy any

I realize that taste is paramount
If you’re rich no need to bitch
The more you are prepared to pay
Will guarantee the look is kitsch

Rarities make up the fewness
Driving prices up we know
Apart from that the game is naked
A rich man’s altogether throw

In the end the answer’s clear to see
Those reasons why the price is high
Keeping prices way beyond the reach
So poor men can’t afford to buy

Water, water everywhere costs too much to drink

Up for Grabs

They spoke at length of situations
That may or may not benefit
But attitudes left them at odds
Like where strangers meet and sit

Time pressed on without solutions
Leaving tethering’s too slack
Causing unforeseeable collisions
As if there could be no way back

At the risk of being something else
Which was quite another thing
Not wishing to be wealth endowed
Bound by what legacy will bring

In the end with all the points reviewed
Discrepancies completely clear
It was time to let the status quo
On each side be nowhere near

The Bury Me Vile Show

‘Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies
are with the family and friends’
At last they’ve had to take it off
All the spite and spit and slanging
Just like history’s execution shows
Where ugly crowds attended hanging

Advertisers on a sales parade
Used disregarded underdogs
Whilst oglers barking accusations
At those who wallow stuck in bogs

“Look at them I can’t believe it”
In our ‘Laugh-out-loud’ ovations
Thankfully we’re not like them
With dismal loser inclinations

All those people whom society fails
Who can’t get past their rage
Who can’t relate their distressed lives
Displaying agony on stage

Shame on producers and presenters
Vast fortunes clearly made
On the backs of drowning failures
Without a hope to make the grade

Gezelligheid

You might call it laziness
Idle wastefulness perhaps
Taking breaks just staring out
Shutting eyes enjoying naps

But me I’m of the thoughtful mind
In full control of being me
Not afraid of quietly sitting still
Allowing ingenuity

I never judge inventiveness
When immersed in rapt abstraction
For one good thought will travel far
Born out of simplified distraction

Contentment is my chosen quest
Allowing lots to sort themselves
Enjoy sudden bright surprises
Letting go of pointless delves
