Valediction

It was one day
Long overdue
When clouds
Gave way to blue
A shining song
Of sunbeam light
Dried up tears
As storms took flight
No sudden switch
No jumps for joy
But holding back
no sudden rush
Calmness kept
The line in check
No sweeping clean
No brand-new brush
So many caught
By the raid assault
Vanquished all alone
We shan’t forget
The loss we felt
When so much love
Was overthrown

Wake a Weak Week

Monday is a must pass by
Tuesday’s gone to grass
Wednesday has no middle left
Thursday’s lost its class
Friday once a superstar
On Saturday we’ll pass
Sunday one more struggling day
To signify a week’s impasse

Curator Of The Passages

In the Book-House of abundance
A knowledge seeker ‘hide’
Spotting pearls on shelving
A billion answers wide

Order warder overseer
Information data tracer
Stacks and packs by relevance
To please the hasty chaser

The keeper of the library
Fine selector and collector
Where to find by type and kind
A code mismatch protector

Altitudinal

A mouse sat on a skirting board
With enormous saucepan eyes
On that high was flying kites
Whilst looking up to re-apprise

Kites where sailing round the room
In a multicoloured fly
As if a tune reminded it
That something long ago passed by

What held everything up there
No one dared repudiate
Nor question that the way it was
Had passed its sell-by date

Pressure Cooking

Frozen still throughout the nation
As now we find this silent norm
Fewer trains no aeroplanes
At least the weather’s getting warm

Explanations are in short supply
Along with health protection form
Valiant heroes do their level best
Irrespective they perform

Culture clubs have locked their doors
No longer fashion can conform
Not going out to strut our stuff
Something airborne whispers storm

A Covid English Rhyme

Once in a while they passing glance
A seldom smile or distant nod
Fleeting slight connections
On their walk or shopping plod

So many lives who rarely met
Now come across half-heartedly
Thrust upon the roadside way
Preferring cool reservedly

Life is what they’re  yearning
To be among yet distantly
Know your place no interface
Keep apart though pleasantly

Garden Leaves

Listening to the Sunday sound
Of lockdown blues
Overwhelmed with poetries
Hear the bird song news

Flowerpots with garden scents
Throw lifelines in the air
Rich and bright abundance
Granting favours free to share

Feel the fervour in this natural show
Breath returning scents desired
Where the rhythm of the light and shade
Found love in gentleness inspired

Just Another Any Day Monday

Staring out on Monday morning waiting
Compelled to watch the day just drift away
I feel the world we knew has gone astray
Wishing life again was reinstating

The welcome sight of queues has much appeal
Lines of people taking turns to enter
The In-Crowd inside the supercentre
Where isolated people make a deal

Shopping games play out in aisles of many
A random dance no rhythm just the blues

Avoiding any chance to not get any
Overtaking any wonderers who muse

Fully paid agree a well spent penny
Returning home on empty avenues

On It With A Sonnet (A Virusism)

A lonely Twitterer

We’re toeing lines at friendly distances
When working out we walk a country mile
Remembering our freedom instances
As if somehow were here right now we smile
People in disguise mask their face and eyes
Keep look-out as they criss-cross pathway wide
A breathing space detached we might surmise
As one and all prefers the other side
Walking takes the panic out of buying
As needs are settled down to not buy more
Only log jams filled with trolley vying
Restrict processions solemnly in-store
When life again returns we may recall
To not ignore the writings on the wall

What A Do But We Both Do

Dusted ceilings walls and doors
Swept then washed the floors
Polished taps and scrubbed the sinks
Even painted stuff outdoors

Me and her a rigorous pair
Doing our best with home job-share
Two busy bees we’re gallantly
Valiantly four-square

Although we mustn’t stray too far
No need to take the car
Mixing shopping with our exercise
In this virus worst nightmare

Our Parliament pleads stay at home
Which we don’t second guess
We’re full on to saving lives
Protect the NHS

Media Tedium

Politicians all around the globe
Who stand as spokesmen in the know
Powers that be with glib retorts
In leading lights that brightly glow

Giving out what we already know
Holding back their waning strength
With repetitious three-word mantras
Sidestepping matters grave at length

It seems supposing ‘bull and bluster’
Will satisfy a nations ear
When all the lack of doings done
Have impaired the state of here

Ill prepared for deadly illnesses
Sickbay blind to basic health
Squeezing pennies from the citizens
To reinforce distorted wealth

In history plagues have ruled the day
By lack of spending on research
Unaware of what important is
Sitting haughty in their church

The news today is yesterdays
A re-run stale and lacking news
Thousands dying at relentless speed
Hours and hours of stale reviews

All Those Little Things

Another day of shrouded days
When thrive all but expired
Time out we took uneasily
Those days-off least desired

Cancellation of togetherness
Locked down and boarded up
People dared the distant air
No café corner seat no cup

Can’t spend cash it just won’t wash
Waging war against the change
Dashing hopes and expectations
Too indiscreet to rearrange

For Now

Sun shines down indifferently
Wind blows where it will
Rain comes down accordingly
Snow falls quietly still

Days they come and go at pace
Speed at which a world is turning
Day and night put up no fight
The past and future not returning
