January hot or cold
Begins its gradual crawl
Like a newborn infant
Barely moving if at all
Hesitation and endurance
It drives our New Year’s mood
Suppressing happy appetites
For nothing but to brood
Thirty-one days of struggle
From all too recent overspends
Happy New Year! Hopeful flashes
As we pledge to make amends
