The year had run out of days
Which ended in parties and plays
Lots of drinking and eating
Justified every meeting
Then declaring a changing of ways
New Year a promise from day one
That a dry month had truly begun
Teas and coffees galore
Allowed oneself to restore
One’s kidneys and liver for fun
The old year passed far and away
Looking back on so much to say
All the ups and the downs
Misgivings and frowns
Cheer up have a great New Year Day
