Somebody heard
From a friend of a friend,
Something so daft
One can’t comprehend
A story, outrageous
Too hard to construe
No evidence at all
Unlikely it’s true
Yet time and again
The story moves on
With nothing at all
To base it upon
I’m inclined to believe
It’s all based on fear
Like the stories of ghosts
That never appear
Yet somebody told me
A respectable guy
Whom I always give weight
Though I can’t explain why
