Happiest Returns

The road I take to your house
is a pleasant route for me
familiar recollections
speak of ease and pleasantry

Cordial talk of any things
no tedium no task
no need to utter guardedly
nor wear a social mask

No need to think correctly
or masquerade the chat
or wear a haughty over cloak
even worse a pompous hat

When visiting we look ahead
like the turning of a page
such feelings free and easy
on your homely landing stage
