In The Beginning Was The Why?

Three little letters to cast you adrift
Begins every thinking progression
Too often it shows how little we know
The ultimate human confession

Three little letters to make you uneasy
To send you hazily seeking suggestion
So often a trap that one ought to avoid
When three times removed from the question

We all have an honest enquiry pursuit
Not enough to be taken as read
We so need to take part in discovery
To make best of the space in our head

The mind of a child is a seeker in need

Well aware of how thinking’s a task
They love to ask why barely listening at all
I stall for time using “Why do you ask?”

For the children, young and old alike
