Yule Do

Winter coats are telling me
That freezing temperatures are due
Woolly everything now relevant
My fur lined boots a favoured shoe

Smiles are strained to grimacing
Shoulders hunched in collars turned
Cranky mornings full of cold and damp
Tweaking thermostats confirmed

Never mind it won't be long
As 'whispered songs' of swiping cards
Will overheat your bank accounts
For jolly parlour game charades

Cheer up and wear your bravest face
Ring out loud your carriage bells
Peal a crumbled chestnut husk
A seasoned compliment that quells

Once again your winter wrappings
Demand abundant bursting hoards
To clear the shelves of shopping malls
For gifts that harmony affords
